A garden center sells a certain grass seed in 5-pound bags at $13.85 per bag, 10-pound bags at $20.43 per bag, and 25-pound bags $32.25 per bag. If a customer is to buy at least 65 pounds of the grass seed, but no more than 80 pounds, what is the least possible cost of the grass seed that the customer will buy?
A) $94.03
B) $96.75
C) $98.78
D) $102.07
E) $105.3
OA is B.
I took more than 2 minutes to solve this problem.Is there any quicker way to solve this problem ?

Hi Rohan,

This question is straight forward. It’s quite evident from the question that,

25 pound bag  is the cheapest.

So a customer buys minimum 65 pounds to max 80 pounds.  So the range is between 65 to 80.

So it could be 25 * 3 = 75 pounds. that is three bags of 25 pounds rice.

Or 25 * 2 + 10 * 1 + 5 * 1 = 65 pounds( that is two 25 pounds bag rice , one ten pounds and 5 pounds.)

Least cost would be the first one that is 75 pounds.

So the answer is B.

I dont really see a short cut to solve this question.
