How Need is Determined
HBS Scholarships are based on a candidate’s income from the last three years, along with their assets. Students with higher earnings contribute at a higher rate than students with lower earnings. If someone is married and/or has children, Harvard also considers a portion of the spouse’s income and assets, as the candidate’s higher cost of living. Alumni-driven Funding
HBS Scholarships are funded by the alumni. Here the college tries to pair alumni and scholarship recipients who share similar backgrounds or aspirations to create meaningful connections between past HBS classes and those that follow.

John C. Phelan (MBA 1990) Forward Fellowship
Harvard announced its new Forward Fellowship which is designed to support students from lower-income backgrounds who carried significant financial burdens or obligations.

George Leadership Fellowship
This fellowship is open to HBS students in the third year of the joint degree program with Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), the fellowship reflects the foundation’s commitment to enhancing public service by investing in character formation and leadership development.

Candidates will require two recommendations submitted online by the application deadlines. These letters of recommendation must be completed online. The recommendation form includes the following questions, along with other types of questions:

Question 1: How do the candidate’s performance, potential, background, or personal qualities compare to those of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles? Please provide specific examples.
Word limit: 300 words

Question 2: Please describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the circumstances and the applicant’s response.
Word limit: 250 words

Here are some tips for the letter of recommendation:

Who can give a recommendation: You will have to provide details of one recommender who can be your reporting manager/ previous manager/ senior colleague/ current client/ previous client/ business partner/ supplier/ auditor etc.

How a letter of recommendation should be written: The recommender should add specific instances/examples of the candidate’s professional work together.

How to send the letter of recommendation: The recommender should send the recommendation from the official email id only. If the recommender does not have an official id – then a proof that you reported / or was supervised by this person should be attached.
