Even within the same study
Even within the same study, people responded quite differently to acupuncture, some showing increased flexibility, while others did not.
(A) some showing increased flexibility, while others did not.
(B) with some showing increased flexibility, while others did not.
(C) with some showing an increase in flexibility and others did not.
(D) some showing an increase in flexibility, while others not.
(E) with some showing increased flexibility and others not.
My Ques: How do we come down to option E?
Hi Riya,
The complete sentence would be
Even within the same study, people responded quite differently to acupuncture, some showing increased flexibility, while others not showing increased flexibility
You cannot say some showing increased flexibility, while others DID not showing increased flexibility. In option D, there’s a problem with usage of while. The non-underlined part of the sentence by itself indicates that there is some difference by stating “quite differently”. We do not have to repeat “while” to indicate contrast again
E is the correct answer. Expansion – Even within the same study, people responded quite differently to acupuncture, with some showing increased flexibility, while others not showing increased flexibility.
Hope this helps!
I would like to include one point.
Word “with” needs attention. Because, using with means we are considering all people who showed or not showed increased flexibility to acupuncture. Also, we are not comparing people’s response.
Hope this helps.
