Hi can someone help me in answering below question
Algae can be found living in almost all parts of the world’s oceans; they are an important part of the world-wide ecosystem by virtue of their constant re-oxygenation of the water which allowed them to rejuvenate even the most polluted environments.
A. by virtue of their constant re-oxygenation of the water which allowed them
B. by virtue of their constant re-oxygenation of the water, which allows them
C. on the grounds that their constant re-oxygenation of the water which has allowed them
D. since the constant re-oxygenation of the water that has been allowing them
E. by virtue of their constant re-oxygenation of the water allowing them
I can see answer for this is B. But In option B which refers to water so i think ANS must be option A can some one correct me if i am wrong
A cannot be correct since it doesnt have comma before which. so i preferred option B
But in B i am not very sure whether which is modifying virtue of their constant re-oxygenation of the water (Noun idea). or Not.
Here goes my reasoning :
A – which refers to water and water does not allow algae to rejuvenate even the most polluted environment. So A is out
B – comma is there before which so it refers to re oxygenation and this allows algae to reju…..environment
C – same as A
D – same as A
E – ing participle without a comma modifies noun or noun phrase just before it therefore it modifies re-oxygenation of water instead of algae. So out
