I am not able to go beyond finding out the mean i.e. 12,000. Help me with the further steps please
44. A certain city with a population of 132,000 is to be divided into 11 voting districts, and no district is to have a population that is more than 10 percent greater than the population of any other district
What is the minimum possible population that the least populated district could have
(A) 10,700
(B) 10,800
(C) 10,900
(D) 11,000
(E) 11,100
Hi Santosh,
The concept being tested here is the max/min concept. If we need to maximize something then we reduce everything else to its minimum. If we need to find the min of something then we need to increase everything else to its maximum.
If we consider the least population as x, then the max populations of all the other districts will be 1.1x. Since we need to find the min, we need to increase the population of all the other 10 districts to the max value which is 1.1x.
So x + 1.1x(10) = 132000 —–> 12x = 132000 —–> x = 11000
Hope this helps!
