I choose A over E because of active/passive. Is there any other reason to reject E?
Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged in 1911, Scott Joplin’s ragtime opera Treemonisha was not produced until 1972, sixty-one years after its completion.
(A) Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged
(B) Except for a concert performance with the composer himself staging it
(C) Besides a concert performance being staged by the composer himself
(D) Excepting a concert performance that the composer himself staged
(E) With the exception of a concert performance with the staging done by the composer himself

Question : I choose A over E because of active/passive. Is there any other reason to reject E?
Hey Nirvan,
In option E “concert performance with the staging” sounds as if the concert was with the staging. Another reason to eliminate E is it is wordy and awkward.
On the GMAT, active voice is preferred over passive voice. However, do not use the active/passive rule as your primary method of elimination. If you are stuck between 2 answer choices, choose the clear and concise option which conveys the intended meaning in just as many words as required
Hope this helps 🙂
Hi Nirvan,
Please visit the below thread where this question has been discussed

The reason given to eliminate E in the thread you mentioned is that it “seems wrong” and “wrong usage”. No proper explanation is given as to why E is eliminated.
