Need Clarifications

What is the value of 2x + 2Y?

a. 3x + 5y = 60

b. 5x+3y = 68

OA: C

I factorised 60 in (a.) and got 2 x 2 x 3 x 5

This implies x and y have to take value 2 for this equation to be true.

(b) not sufficient

Hence (A) is sufficient.

Can you tell me where am I going wrong?

Hi Chaitanya,

I dont know why you have done factorization?

If the question talks about X and Y integers, then it make sense to factorize.

we have to find 2x+2Y ?

to find this, either we need X and Y values or two linear equations or equation similar to 2X+2Y.

Statement I is insufficient:

X  and Y could be anything, like X could be zero or Y = 12 or X = 1 or Y = 11.4

So insufficient.

Similarly, Statement II is insufficient.

But both taken together, we can solve for X and Y.

So the answer is C.

Hope this is clear.
