Prepositions
Understand this could be quite basic question but I need to understand this please.
Q1 : How do I use ” Is ” or ” Are ” in case of using idiom “On the table” .. I came across a sentence “On the table are a book of Idioms and a pen”, wondering why we are using ” are a book “?
Q2 :
Please confirm my understanding ;
1). On the table – Prepositional phrase.
2). are – Verb
3). a book of Idioms and a pen – Noun or the Subject
Hi Abhinav,
Flip the sentence for your understanding
A book and a pen are lying on the table
and not
A book and a pen is lying on the table
because you have 2 objects on the table
