Probability

If the probability that it will rain on any certain day in City X was 40 %, then what is the probability that it rains once in two days?

  1. 0.24
  2. 0.36
  3. 0.48
  4. 0.54
  5. 0.60

I solved it by saying that the probability of raining on 1st day is 0.4

Probability that it did not rain on the first day but rained on second is 0.6*0.4

Probability rains on one of the days is 0.4+0.24 = 0.64

not an answer choice.  Why is A correct?

Got it. Rain is an independent event so P(Rain on 2 days ) = P(A)*P(B) but then shouldn’t it be P(R,NR) = 0.4*0.6*2
