Solution please
There is a leak in the bottom of the tank this tank can empty a full tank in 8 hours when the tank is full a tap is opened into the tank which intakes the water at the rate of 6 litre per hour and now the tank is now emptied in 12 hrs. What is the capacity of the tank
This is a fairly straightforward question of rate and time.
Let the initial capacity be x L.
This is what we are required to calculate.
The rate of emptying the tank will be x/8 L/hr.
Since the rate of filling is 6 L/hr , the total volume filled by it is 6 x 12 = 72 L.
The equation will be:
Initial Volume + Volume Added – Volume Removed = 0 as it is emptying in 12 hrs.
=> x + 72 – 12 x x/8 = 0
=> x = 144 L.
