Hunter: Hunters alone are blamed for the decline in Greenrock National Forest’s deer population
over the past ten years. Yet clearly, black bears have also played an important role in this decline.
In the past ten years, the forest’s protected black bear population has risen sharply, and examination
of black bears found dead in the forest during the deer hunting season showed that a number of
them had recently fed on deer.
In the hunter’s argument, the boldface portion plays which of the following roles?
A. It is the main conclusion of the argument.
B. It is an objection that has been raised against the main conclusion of the argument.
C. It is a judgment that the argument opposes.
D. It is a finding that the argument seeks to explain.
E. It provides evidence in support of the main conclusion of the argument.
OA:A
How to conclude the answer?

Hello Indu;
While approaching bold face questions- find out what the main conclusion of the argument is first.
What is the hunter’s perspective here?
It’s obviously – that black bears are also part of the reason for the decline of deer population.
The latter part of the argument is proof/evidence he uses to substantiate his conclusion.

Therefore option A is the right answer!

In argument ” Yet clearly,…”
“Clearly” conclusion indicator.
So by looking at initial of bold part, you can get that u need to find an option which says its a conclusion
Only OA: A says its a conclusion

B: Objection
C: Judgement
D: Finding
E: evidence

Hence, OA: A

I need an explanation how to cancel D. I agree it is main conclusion, but still D looks attractive. I dont have sufficient reasons to cancel this choice.

 Hi Saikat

Let’s look at the argument Saikat J

Here “In the past ten years, the forest’s protected black bear population has
risen sharply, and examination of black bears found dead in the forest during
the deer hunting season showed that a number of them had recently fed on deer
.” explains how the black bears have also
played a role in the decline of deer population.

Nowhere
in the argument is it suggested that the boldface part is a finding.

And
the keyword “Clearly” most of time suggests that the given sentence is a
conclusion.

So D
is clearly out
