Successive reduction %

A certain copy machine is set to reduce an image by 13%. If steve photocopies a document on his machine and then photocopies the copy on the same machine. What % of the original will the final image size be?

My solution : ( -13 – 13 +(169/100))

Whats wrong with my solution??

Original solution: (0.87*100)*(0.87)

Hi Shilpi,

Your solution is also right. You should read the question though, you cannot afford these types of mistakes on the GMAT. The question asks for what percent of the original REMAINS.

The overall percentage as you mentioned is -24.31, so the percentage remaining will be 100 – 24.31 = 75. 69.

(0.87*100)*(0.87) gives you the same answer 75.69
